So I just found out today the full story of my new pup, Charlie and his 9 brothers and sisters. I adopted him from A Puppy's Voice rescue in Ft Collins and today, I had Ashley and Brett into the studio to tape our Public Affairs show that will air across our radio stations this weekend.
The Rocky Mountain Viewpoints show will air at 7 AM Sunday on 96.1 KISS FM and 107.9 The Bear. 6 AM Sunday on Big Country 97.9 and 11 AM Sunday on 600 KCOL.
First, some background on APV... A Puppy's Voice rescues puppies and adult dogs from high-kill situations around the state or bad homes, etc. then fosters them out to volunteers until they can find them forever homes. In their two years in Ft Collins, they've helped to rescue over FOURTEEN HUNDRED DOGS! All without a shelter or a full time staff... it's just Ashley, a few friends and a bunch of foster homes and volunteers. They do a remarkable job and are worth your checking out if you're like me and have a soft spot for our four legged friends.
So today I had them on our public affairs show and for the first time had to chance to ask how she came to have my new boy Charlie and his brothers and sisters. The story is DEVASTATING and makes me SO much more grateful to have him now in my life, the little cuddle bug he is.
Turns out, they got Charlie and his 9 brothers and sisters from Animal Control. Animal Control got a call from someone that they found my new best pal and all of his other littermates, 3 weeks old, shivering and scared to death in a box on the side of a country road. Ashley took them in, bottle feeding all of them until they were nourished enough to go out to foster homes, then managed to foster-to-adopt all ten of them out in the last couple of weeks.
Charlie is such a good, smart boy... growing much better than at least one of his brothers a dear friend of mine adopted, named Wrigley. But Wrigley will catch up. These little guys wouldn't have had a chance without A Puppy's Voice! This is just one of the MANY situations where these guys step in a make a difference. Believe me when I say when I get him home tonight (he hangs out with me at work most days) I will spoil the crap out of him. 6 weeks ago he and his littermates were left for dead on a country road by some seriously warped individual. Tonight, instead, he will be laying in my lap chewing on a bone, with a full belly and a ton of toys surrounding him. He will know that I'm there for him and that I wont let anything happen to him. How anyone could not want to let this little boy mature into the smart little pup he is, or deprive me and all of his brother and sister's new homes the fun and love they bring, is just BEYOND me. How could someone CHOOSE to do that? Charlie will have all of the love he may have otherwise missed because of the work A Puppy's Voice does.
They need your help too ... either to adopt, foster, volunteer or simply via donations to help them keep the cause going and hopefully build a full service shelter sooner than later!
Check them out at APuppysVoice.org or Facebook.com/apvrescue.
They'll also be set up this Saturday, and EVERY Saturday from 9-4, at Petsmart in Ft Collins with some really cute adoptable faces you have to see.
Show them some love... and if you are thinking about a puppy, PLEASE don't go spending all kinds of crazy money with a breeder... go rescue a pup who needs a chance. It's far cheaper for you and your good deed for the year. Odds are if they don't have the breed you want now, they will eventually. Make contact. Make a difference!
