SoCal in Flames...
Every news network is covering it for the past 4 days now, and you may be thinking "Man, I am sick of this." I REALLY hope you're not thinking that. Nearly 1,000,000 people have been evac'd from their homes, shelters are full, Qualcomm Satdium is more packed right now than it is for most Chargers homoe games, and for some unfortunate folks, everything they have - with the exception of the clothes on their backs - are gone. Literally, up in smoke.
Take just a second and ask yourself this question: If I had 15 minutes to pack up what I could and evacuate my home, what would I take? Pictures, important documents, maybe a change of clothes and a blanket or two... Some poeple didn't even have time for that. Just the kids, the pets, and themselves.

It's in these unforseen circumstances that some folks just really shine. Firefighters & police officers, neighbors, complete strangers... I read an artice today where a woman who's a professional massage therapist in Malibu drove to a shelter and offered her services free of charge to firefighters just coming off the front lines. Our fellow broadcasters holding up shop in the stations keeping everyone informed of the latest evacuations, closed areas, and open shelters. Our parent company also refreshed the StormAid site, originally put up to help those affected by Hurricane Katrina years ago, to also keep the public informed and how those across the county can help. You're in our thoughts SoCal.
Only the DIEHARD fans will understand...
If you're a true fan, you've been saying it over and over in your head since you first saw the trailer last summer: 7-27-07... 7-27-07... Well, for those of us lucky enough to live close to Denver, the wait for The Simpsons Movie just got a little easier.

Of course it's Milhouse and Bart at Apu's Kwik-E-Mart, but the best part is, it's for real. 7-Eleven and Fox are running a promotion across the country (only in states that have a city called Springfield) to completely makeover a local store. From Slurpee's to Squishee's, and Cheerio's to Krusty-O's, the whole nine...

Now, I just need to get the Homer tattoo done... See you there, 7-27-07!
No More Sick Days...
It used to be that when you called in sick to work/school, the first thing you'd do after you eventually got out of bed was flip on the TV for daytime game shows. When I was a kid it was always Scrabble & Love Connection with Chuck Woolery, Press Your Luck, Family Feud and of course The Price Is Right with Bob Barker.
Well, if you haven't heard, Bob retired this week after 35 years of hosting the show, and 50 years in the television biz. With any luck, CBS will continue the show with a cool host, I'm hoping Don Rickels... I can just see him cussing out some lady for missing the price on a can of tuna by 35 cents.
So where ever you are going Bob and whatever you're going to be doing, enjoy your retirement. You deserve it. And across the country, cats and dogs alike breathe a sigh of relief now knowing their doggie and kitty naughty bits are now safer... We now have to be subjected to the stall tactics of Howie Mandell and "Deal or No Deal" or as I prefer to call it "Pick Another Number, Stupid"
Wishing you the nicest of "sick" days, and until next time have your crappy game show hosts spayed or neutered. -HB
